⛳️PROJECT PUTT UNIT BRINGS GOLF TO HAMPDEN MEADOWS PE:
Project Putt is a 4-week long golf unit offered as part of the physical education curriculum at Hampden Meadows Elementary School that combines project-based learning with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education. Project Putt allows students to learn basic putting skills required in golf, a life-long sport, and encourages them to think like engineers by creating a 9-hole miniature golf course of their own!
After learning golf etiquette, exercising psychomotor skills, and practicing the rules of the golf game, students will work in small groups using the "6 C's" (character, citizenship, collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking) to each design a hole for the Hampden Meadows miniature golf course. Nine selected holes will be put on display in the gymnasium, to be used by all Grade 4 and Grade 5 students as well as Hampden Meadows staff who can stop by to "pause and putt" when time allows.
🌼CELEBRATING NATIONAL PRINCIPALS MONTH:
October is National Principals Month, a time to celebrate the important leadership role of school principals across the country.
At Barrington Public Schools, we are fortunate to have the leadership of dedicated, innovative, and empathetic principals who are committed to our District’s mission of empowering excellence. As a society and as a District community, the past few years have challenged us immensely. Our principals have continually risen to meet these challenges by building genuine relationships, extending compassion and care, and preparing new paths forward that help improve our District and school outcomes.

📚GRACE LIN VISITS BARRINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS:
October has been a busy month for Barrington Public Schools! Last Friday, award-winning author and illustrator, Grace Lin, visited Nayatt School, Sowams School, and Primrose Hill School. The opportunity for students to learn from this dynamic author was generously funded by our BPS PTO.
Grace Lin has published over 25 books written for young and middle-grade audiences. She is known for contributing to Asian-American representation and diversity in children's literature, and much of her work features young Asian and Asian-American characters in both everyday and fantastical settings. As a strong advocate for increased diversity, Grace Lin believes that children's bookshelves should contain books that are mirrors enabling children to see themselves in literature and books that are windows teaching respect and appreciation for the incredible diversity among us.
This year, BPS students in all K-3 grades are focusing on developing their writing. Grace Lin's work sets a great example of how our students can write stories they can see themselves in.
