press release: september 10, 2024

Barrington, RI - The Primrose Hill School (PHS) preschool program has received a 5-star rating from BrightStars, the highest recognition possible under Rhode Island’s Tiered Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS). The BrightStars five-level QRIS works to assess, improve, and communicate the level of quality in early care, education, and school-age programs.

BrightStars uses a comprehensive, strengths-based approach to assess programs across five levels, focusing on continuous quality improvement in the areas of health, safety, nutrition, enrollment, staffing, staff qualifications, professional development, administration, early learning and development, and family engagement. The 5-star rating recognizes programs that exceed the State’s regulatory requirements and demonstrate the best educational practices deemed most effective for children.

Primrose Hill School’s 5-star rating reflects the District’s dedication to providing exceptional early education. PHS stands out as one of only six schools in the BrightStars database to achieve this honor and is also distinguished as the only school among the top-rated that does not operate under the direct oversight of the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE). Additionally, Primrose Hill is the only preschool program in the town of Barrington to receive a 5-star rating, which reflects our commitment to maintaining the highest standards for all of our students.

As a 5-star rated program, Primrose Hill School will continue to engage in high quality instruction as well as ongoing improvement guided by BrightStars and supported by key partners such as the Rhode Island Department of Human Services (DHS), the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE), the Governor’s Office, and other leading state organizations.

This recognition is the result of our dedicated educators and staff, our supportive community, and our District’s unwavering commitment to providing a nurturing and enriching environment for our students to learn and grow.

To celebrate this achievement, BrightStars representatives have expressed interest in visiting Barrington this fall to acknowledge our school’s and District’s commitment to high quality teaching and learning.

We thank all of our families, staff, and community members whose unwavering support makes it possible to provide our students with a transformative education.
