Backpack Express

Good morning,

Here’s this week’s Backpack Express with lots of information.  Please make sure you read the whole thing.

  • PTO/Arts Alive Play:  If your second or third grader is participating in our upcoming play, here’s some information:

    • Auditions are next Wednesday after school until 4:30.  We have a list of participants so you will not need to send a note to school indicating your child is staying on Wednesdays for play auditions and rehearsals.

    • Volunteers are needed for each week to check in students, check out students, and to help with supervision.  If you are able to volunteer, please sign up here.

  • Barrington Education Foundation:  BEF’s largest fundraiser has officially kicked off and we are asking for community support in helping to advance our mission of championing extraordinary educational opportunities in the Barrington Public Schools. Your generosity will help BEF grant innovative, educational teacher programs and initiatives in 2025 and beyond! Thank you so much!  Information on giving may be found here.

  • Nayatt’s 5K:  The Nayatt PTO is thrilled to announce that registration is open for the 2025 Nayatt 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run. This year's event will be held on Saturday, April 5th. We are excited to get everyone out of winter hibernation for a morning filled with community and family fun! In addition to the 5K and 1 mile run, there will be a 50-yard dash, raffle baskets, on-site sponsor activities, and DJ!  By using this link below you can register today!

  • Town Meeting:  We have a Town Meeting scheduled for Monday afternoon at 1:45 hosted by Mrs. Promades’ class.  If you are dismissing your child from Town Meeting, you MUST send a note that morning.  Your child will then be dismissed as a “walker” and you can meet them outside in the back of the building. If we do not receive a note that morning, your child will be sent home their normal Monday way.  There will not be exceptions to this; dismissal gets too busy in the office and classrooms to make these late changes.

  • Yearbook Boosters: Want to congratulate your child on a successful year?  Want to thank a special adult at Sowams?  The boosters are the way to do it! Boosters are on sale March 3rd through March 21st.  More information about the boosters can be found here.

  • Sweetheart Dance: Get ready to dance, play, and party at this year's 2025 Sweetheart Dance - Beach Party Edition.  Friday, May 9th from 6-8pm.  Dress up or dress down and come ready for a night of fun, laughter and tropical vibes. See flyer for detail. Please plan to bring ONE special person due to capacity limits. If we don't sell out, we'll let you know, and you can add an extra guest! Click this link to RSVP: https://forms.gle/B9LtwYmMYJkK3xg79 .  Pay at the door on the day of the event - Cash or PayPal - $5 per person.  Ticket includes a lei for each student. Hope to see you there!

  • Parent Survey:  In previous emails, a link to the RI Department of Education Survey Works survey was sent out.  Please take a few minutes to complete this survey.  You may access the survey here.

Have a wonderful day.

Best,

Jim Callahan

Principal
